TOP Server Event Log - Know What is Happening in Your System

The TOP Server V5’s Event Log now logs when users connect to the Runtime configuration.

TOP Server’s detailed Event Log is a valuable troubleshooting tool, listing informational messages, warnings and errors for you when you are having an issue, whether it be on the client or the device side of the TOP Server communications. To make this information useful to you, the help file for each driver covers the meaning of the error to point you in the right direction, minimizing your troubleshooting time and maximizing your results. New OPC A&E Support added with version 5.1 to monitor your Event Log.
You will see the Event Log at the bottom half of the TOP Server V5 Configuration Window
User Settings: (See Security to control access to these features)
You can print and save the Event Log to a text file and set a number of behavior options in the TOP Server Configuration Window. We recommend saving the Event Log as a text file and sending the file when you are contacting us for help. This *.txt file along with your TOP Server project *.opf file are often needed to help resolve issues quickly. Once your system is up and operational you many also want to remove the check from the Information Events setting, so that you only see Warnings and Error messages in the Configuration view window.
We also recommend looking at the driver help file for information and steps to resolve many errors that you may see. Clicking Help in the TOP Server will provide links to open the help files.
Administrative Settings:

You get to the the TOP Server Settings by Right Clicking on
the Administration Icon 
at the bottom right of your Desktop and choosing Settings from the pop up menu.

There are a number of advanced setting you can control for the Event Log in TOP Server Administration Settings. These settings are part of the Administration Settings to make it easy to secure them from unauthorized use by enabling the User Management. If User Management is enabled, you will need a password to open the settings dialog.
 The Connection settings are for Remote Event Log viewing which will be added in future versions of TOP Server V5. This setting can be ignored if your version does not support Remote Event Log Viewing.
When troubleshooting a problem it can be useful to increase the number of events to make sure you don’t overwrite important events too often. The Log file path lets you select where you want the Log file to be saved. You can also copy the log file from one PC onto another and use this path to open it from another PC or on a network drive.

OPC Alarms & Events Support: Starting with Version 5.1
OPC Alarms and Events clients can now connect to the TOP Server to receive Alarm and Event notifications from TOP Server events in the Event Log. OPC A&E Clients can be notified based on the type of Event Log event like a error event that the Server received a communications error from the device or an information Event that would show that someone has changed or restarted the Server.
